AIn many homes around the world, household tasks are shared between family members. However, research has shown that women often do more unpaid work than men. This includes cooking, cleaning, and caring for children. The division of household labour has been studied by sociologists for many years. It is an important topic in modern society.
BIn the past, women used to stay at home and manage all domestic duties. Men were expected to earn money outside the home. This traditional model has been followed in many cultures, including Bangladesh. However, society has changed greatly over recent decades. More women are now working in paid jobs outside the home.
CDespite these changes, studies have found that women still do most of the housework. Even when both partners work full-time, women spend more hours on domestic tasks. This situation is sometimes called the 'double burden.' As a result, many women feel tired and stressed. Furthermore, this inequality can affect women's career progress.
DOn the other hand, some progress has been made in recent years. Many men have started to share household responsibilities more equally. Research has shown that families which divide tasks fairly are generally happier. In addition, children who grow up in equal households are more likely to share tasks in their own adult lives. Therefore, changing habits at home can have long-term benefits for society.
EExperts believe that education and awareness are important for creating change. If people understand the value of unpaid domestic work, attitudes may improve. Governments can also support families by providing affordable childcare. Although full equality has not been achieved yet, the situation is slowly improving. Many people hope that future generations will share household labour more fairly.
